VIDEO: “Oh my god, you’re real and not a catfish”

Couple finds each other through TikTok

A Nebraska radiologic-technologist unintentionally met her current boyfriend through TikTok.

Taylor Bier said she was facetiming her friend when she saw a TikTok of Lindsay Bannon introducing her brothers Matt and John, due to a previous viral video of the two.

Matt and John had originally gone viral for racing against each other in the pool, each representing blue and pink for Lindsay’s baby gender reveal.

Matt said the introduction video with his brother had many comments from girls, including one from a Canadian Olympic gold medalist.

Taylor’s comment read, “Ooo 25, single, saw there was an Olympic athlete on board- I might not beat that,” on 10 May 2021.

When Matt, 26, event manager and consultant from Dallas, Texas, first messaged Taylor, she said she felt culture shock and wasn’t expecting him to do so.

Due to working night shifts, Taylor said their conversations started off scattered. But despite that, she said, “Every conversation sparked a new conversation. It was super easy.”

She jokingly recalled him saying, “Well nothing personal, but can I facetime you to make sure you’re not a 30 year old man?”

She said Matt ended up asking to FaceTime her for the first time while she was running errands. Taylor pulled into a Target parking lot and only intended to call for 10 minutes.

“He was way more handsome than I ever thought he was going to be.” She added, “I sat in the Target parking lot for two hours and didn’t even ever go in.”

After 2 weeks of speaking to one another over FaceTime, Matt surprised her with plane tickets to visit her in Omaha, Nebraska, on 24 May.

“He booked it a month out, so we still had a full month to get to know each other before he actually came here for the first time,” Taylor said.

At the airport, Matt said he shouted, “Oh my god, you’re real and not a catfish.” Taylor said she felt so embarrassed from everyone looking at them.

It wasn’t until they were sitting side by side in her car she realised how weird it was to see him not through her phone.

“She’s the sweetest, nicest person ever,” Matt said.

Taylor added, “He would pinch me and be like, ‘Sorry, never thought I would see you.’ It really didn’t feel real.”

Taylor Bier's personal TikTok documenting how they met

They spent their time together attending the College World Series, which happened to be held during Matt’s visit, and Taylor introduced him to her family.

“Meeting in person was so much better than I could’ve ever expected. Super crazy how things work out,” Taylor said.

Matt agreed, “Thank god for TikTok right?”

Due to their long distance relationship, they have already scheduled to visit each other one weekend of every month for the remainder of this year.
